Iran has lifted a two-year ban on WhatsApp and Google Play, which was initially imposed to suppress protests following the death of Mahsa Amini. The decision by President Pezeshkian, who is seen as more moderate than his predecessor Ebrahim Raisi, marks a move towards easing social media restrictions in the country. The Telecommunication Minister noted this as a first step in allowing more social media access, although further measures have not yet been disclosed.
