Iran Protests Afghan Dam Project Over Water Rights Concerns

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has raised concerns over the construction of the Pashtan dam in Afghanistan, citing potential violations of bilateral agreements and a detrimental impact on water flow into Iran. Iranian spokesperson Esmail Baghaei expressed worries about excessive restrictions on water entering Iran. Afghan Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar stated the dam will store 54 million cubic meters of water and is critical for irrigation and energy production. This issue has been a longstanding point of contention between the two nations sharing over 900 kilometers of border.
