Irish Delegates Critique COP29 Progress Amidst Fossil Fuel Lobby Concerns

Three young delegates from Ireland, Áine Dempsey, Cian Walsh, and Jessica Dunne, voiced their disappointment over the lack of advancement at COP29, the UN climate summit in Baku, Azerbaijan. As the conference approaches its halfway point, prominent figures like former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and ex-Irish President Mary Robinson have condemned the event as ‘no longer fit for purpose.’ The delegates highlighted concerns regarding progress, the selection of another petrostate as host, and the influence of fossil fuel lobbyists on climate policies.
