Irish Households Expected to Spend €8.9 Billion Retail in December 2023

In December 2023, the average Irish household is projected to spend €1,555 more on retail compared to other months, totaling €8.9 billion. Retail Ireland credits this increase to Budget 2025’s economic support. Despite challenges from cost of living concerns and changing shopping behaviors, there are signs of improved consumer sentiment. Retail Ireland’s Director, Arnold Dillon, is optimistic about trading figures as shopping patterns shift towards value and larger purchases. The positive trend in retail spending is anticipated to continue into 2025.
