Irish Immigration Bureau Head Denies Claims of Unvetted Asylum Seekers Amid Surge in Protection Applications

Detective Chief Superintendent Aidan Minnock of the Garda National Immigration Bureau stated that all migrants seeking protection in Ireland are fingerprinted and identified, countering far-right claims of an unvetted influx. While acknowledging the significant rise in asylum applications, especially from economic migrants, he emphasized that serious criminals are actively monitored and detained. He highlighted the involvement of organized crime groups in people smuggling, as well as the upcoming commencement of charter flights for deporting failed asylum seekers in 2025.
