Irish New Car Sales in 2024 Show Slight Decrease Despite Growth in Commercial Vehicles
In 2024, Ireland registered 121,195 new cars, representing a 1% decline compared to 2023. Electric car registrations fell 24%, while petrol vehicles remained the most popular. Automatic transmissions now dominate the market with a 66% share, and hatchbacks continued to lead as the preferred car body type. Despite lower electric vehicle sales, there are signs of recovery expected in 2025. Brian Cooke, Director General of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, noted overall positive trends in commercial vehicle sales, signaling economic growth.
