Italian Journalist Cecilia Sala Arrested in Iran Amid Growing Tensions
Cecilia Sala, a 29-year-old journalist for Il Foglio and Chora Media, has been arrested in Tehran, Iran. Detained since December 19, Sala is being held in solitary confinement at Evin prison, with no reason provided for her arrest. Italy’s foreign ministry is actively pursuing clarification of her legal situation amidst rising tensions with Iran. Sala had traveled to Iran on December 12 with a valid journalist visa for assignments. The Italian ambassador has visited her, while a #FreeCecilia campaign has emerged, calling for her immediate release.
