Italy Heightens Alert Amid Unknown Disease Outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Italy has raised its alert level in response to an unknown disease responsible for over 70 deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Italian Ministry of Health has instructed various health agencies to monitor all entry points, especially direct flights from the Congo. The World Health Organization (WHO) is sending experts to assist local health authorities in investigating the outbreak, which shows symptoms similar to influenza but is not COVID-19. The disease particularly affects children under five and remains undiagnosed as laboratory tests are underway.
