Japan Culls 50,000 Chickens Amid Bird Flu Outbreak
Japanese authorities have begun culling approximately 50,000 chickens following an outbreak of avian influenza at a farm in Iwate. The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the virus’s presence, prompting movement restrictions on 170,000 chickens from nearby farms. Additional outbreaks were reported, leading to the culling of 120,000 and 147,000 chickens at farms in Iwate and Aichi, respectively, along with over one million chickens culled earlier in Ibaraki. This marks the 19th outbreak of avian influenza this season in Japan.
