Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of France’s Insoumis party, condemned the traditional left’s negotiators for their perceived servility and betrayal of the Nouveau Front populaire alliance during budget discussions with the government. He emphasized that any agreements made by the Socialist Party and the Greens would not involve the Insoumis, urging a firm stance against supporting the government’s budget. The Insoumis are refraining from talks with key economic ministers until a policy declaration by Prime Minister François Bayrou is presented on January 14.
