Joe Biden Grants Clemency to 1,500 Convicted Individuals
President Joe Biden has commuted or pardoned the sentences of approximately 1,500 individuals, marking the largest clemency action by a U.S. president in one day. Many of those granted clemency were under house arrest during the COVID-19 pandemic or incarcerated for non-violent offenses, including possession of marijuana. Biden expressed his belief in giving second chances, with plans to continue reviewing clemency requests. Human rights advocates are urging for more individuals on death row to be spared as Trump’s presidency looms. Biden has also granted clemency to his son, Hunter Biden.
