John Cannan, a notorious prisoner suspected of involvement in the disappearance of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh in 1986, has died at the age of 70 while serving a life sentence for murder. Cannan, who was convicted in 1989 for the murder of Shirley Banks, was linked to Lamplugh’s case through circumstantial evidence, but her body was never found. His death at HMP Full Sutton will prompt an investigation as per standard procedure. Cannan had consistently maintained his innocence regarding Lamplugh’s murder.
