John McGuinness Announces Candidacy for Ceann Comhairle Position in Upcoming Dáil Election
Fianna Fáil TD John McGuinness has revealed his intention to run for the position of Ceann Comhairle in the Dáil, with elections set for next Wednesday. McGuinness, a TD since 1997, will face competition from the outgoing Ceann Comhairle Sean Ó Fearghaíl seeking re-election and independent candidate Verona Murphy, who could become the first woman in the role. Sinn Féin is also expected to nominate Aengus Ó Snodaigh for the position, creating a competitive election following last month’s General Election.
