Previously, the record was held by Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress. The slippers, crucial to the film’s plot, were recovered by the FBI in 2018 after being stolen in 2005. The auction also featured memorabilia from the film, including a witch’s hat worn by actress Margaret Hamilton, which sold for nearly $3 million.
