Kosovo Electoral Committee Rejects Serbian List Candidacy Ahead of Elections
The Kosovo Electoral Committee has rejected the candidacy of the Serbian List, the main political party representing Serbs in Kosovo, citing its close ties to Belgrade and non-recognition of Kosovo’s statehood. The decision, which can be appealed, drew criticism from Serbia and concerns from the U.S. and EU. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić accused Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti of trying to eliminate opposition voices among the Serbs, while the U.S. Embassy expressed worries about potential undermining of democratic principles.
