Kyriakos Mitsotakis Announces New Educational Reforms and Schools in Greece

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis revealed plans for 22 new schools funded by the Onassis Foundation, aimed at serving disadvantaged areas. The initiative will accommodate around 6,000 students and will enhance educational programs with a focus on humanities and sciences. Additionally, starting September 2026, select high school students will be able to choose the International Baccalaureate curriculum alongside the national university entrance exams, broadening their academic opportunities. The Ministry of Education also introduced the ‘Open School’ initiative, promoting multifunctional community spaces in municipalities.
