The Lagkadas municipal council unanimously rejected the plan for an immigration detention center at the old tobacco warehouses in Zagkliveri. Local residents argue that such a facility would significantly impact their lives and decrease their quality of living. On October 15, a Greek police team inspected the site to assess its potential suitability for a detention center with a capacity of 1,500 individuals. Currently, a temporary asylum-seeker shelter operates in the municipality.
