The new Meteosat third generation 1 (MTG1) satellite has become operational, marking the first launch in 20 years for European meteorological services. It will provide enhanced weather data, capturing electrical discharges, and offering images of Europe every 2.5 minutes with 18 channels compared to the previous satellite’s 12 channels, significantly improving monitoring capabilities.
