Launch of ‘Stop Fraude’ System to Combat Public Transport Ticket Evasion in France
The newly implemented ‘Stop Fraude’ initiative allows public transport companies in France to verify the addresses of ticketless passengers post-fine notification, ensuring fines reach the correct individuals. This effort, endorsed by the CNIL and driven by industry operators such as SNCF and RATP, aims to tackle an annual estimated revenue loss of approximately €700 million due to fare evasion. Although real-time verification is not yet possible, future legislation may provide those capabilities. The system will be rolled out starting January 8, with additional companies expected to adopt it in the coming months.
