Legal Cannabis Sales to Begin in April Across Ten Municipalities in the Netherlands

Starting April 7, 2024, only legally regulated cannabis will be sold in coffeeshops across ten municipalities in the Netherlands participating in a cannabis experiment. This move seeks to eliminate illegal supply sources and provide clarity for municipalities, shop owners, and growers. The new phase of the experiment, which lasts four years, aims to assess the effects of regulated cultivation and sales on public health and safety. The participating municipalities include Breda, Tilburg, Groningen, Zaanstad, Almere, Arnhem, Nijmegen, Voorne aan Zee, Heerlen, and Maastricht.
