Legislation Introduced in UK Parliament to Assist Survivors of Irish Mother-and-Baby Homes

Labour MP Liam Conlon has tabled ‘Philomena’s Law’ in the UK Parliament to help survivors of mother-and-baby homes in Ireland, now living in the UK, access compensation without losing their means-tested benefits. The bill addresses the issue that current rules classify compensation as savings, deterring many from applying. Conlon highlighted the harsh conditions faced by these women, exemplified by Philomena Lee’s experiences. The legislation is supported by Lee and actor Steve Coogan, aiming to ensure eligible survivors receive full compensation without adverse effects on their financial situations.
