LGBT Veterans to Receive Up to £70,000 in Compensation for Discharges Due to Sexual Orientation
The UK government is set to announce a compensation scheme for LGBT veterans dismissed from the armed forces due to their sexual orientation, offering up to £70,000. Following consultations with LGBT veterans and advocates, the Ministry of Defence will increase the available compensation from £50 million to £75 million. Veterans can apply for a base payment of £50,000, with additional sums based on individual circumstances. Payments will be tax-exempt and will not impact benefits.
