Libya’s Unity Government Launches Airstrikes Against Smuggling Operations
The Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU), based in Tripoli and recognized by the UN, announced military operations and airstrikes in western Libya targeting smuggling and drug trafficking sites. The city of Zawiya, known for its oil refinery and continuous gang violence, has been a focal point for these operations. The airstrikes aimed at destroying fuel smuggler facilities, particularly in the Asban area, while residents were warned to avoid targeted locations due to potential explosives. Libya continues to face significant challenges following the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
