Lithuania Enhances Security Measures Ahead of Disconnection from Russian Power Grid
Lithuania announced on January 8 that it will strengthen security measures to protect its energy connection with Poland ahead of its planned disconnection from the Russian power grid on February 8. Amid concerns of sabotage, the Lithuanian government’s Public Security Service will begin monitoring the LitPolLink connection sooner than originally planned. The Baltic states, having sought to reduce their reliance on Russia since 1991, will synchronize their electrical networks with the European system following financial support from the EU.
