Luxury Travel’s Environmental Cost: Private Jets Emitting Carbon Like Never Before
A recent study reveals that the ultra-rich are treating private jets as everyday transport, with carbon emissions soaring by 46% from 2019 to 2023. The research highlights that a single hour in a private jet can emit more CO2 than an average person does in a year. In 2023 alone, private flights produced approximately 15.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, comparable to the emissions of nearly 3.7 million petrol cars. While this represents a small portion of global aviation emissions, the trend underscores a growing disparity in eco-consciousness among the wealthy.
