Major Art Forgery Ring Busted: 2,000 Counterfeit Works Seized
Italian authorities have dismantled an international art forgery ring accused of producing 2,000 fake artworks attributed to renowned artists like Banksy, Picasso, and Warhol. The operation, which spanned Italy, Spain, France, and Belgium, has led to charges against 38 suspects for forgery and trafficking of stolen goods. The investigation began after a discovery of counterfeit pieces during a police raid in Pisa. Eurojust estimates the falsified works could have fetched around €200 million at auction. Authorities have now retrieved these artworks for further examination.
