Major Art Forgery Scheme Foiled in Greece as Authorities Arrest Gallery Owner and Associates
A planned online auction featuring 123 artworks attributed to renowned Greek painters has been halted by police in Greece, who arrested three individuals including the gallery owner and his daughter. The paintings, believed to be forgeries, were to be sold at prices ranging from €1,200 to €25,000. Authorities seized over 500 paintings, and art historians confirmed the works were not genuine. The operation followed a legal complaint filed by prominent art lawyer Stelios Garipis against the gallery’s owner and his daughter.
