Man Charged with Murder and Arson in NYC Subway Killing
Sebastian Zapeta, 33, has been indicted on charges of murder and arson following the death of a woman set on fire in a New York subway train. The victim, who remains unidentified, was reportedly targeted while asleep. Despite a lack of prior interaction, Zapeta allegedly ignited her clothing and remained at the scene momentarily. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch condemned the act as one of extreme depravity. Mayor Eric Adams has urged federal charges, and a vigil for the victim was held as authorities continue efforts to identify her.
