Mario Voigt Elected Thüringen’s New Prime Minister with Possible Support from Left Party
Mario Voigt, the CDU politician, has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Thüringen, securing an absolute majority in the Landtag with 51 votes. His coalition, consisting of the CDU, Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), and SPD, lacks a standalone majority in the new parliament. Voigt is believed to have received support from the Left Party during the secret ballot, while he has ruled out any cooperation with the AfD led by Björn Höcke.
