Mass Displacement in Syria Due to Rebel and Islamist Advances
Since November 27, fierce clashes between rebels and Syrian forces, particularly led by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, have resulted in 280,000 people being displaced, according to the UN. Additionally, the recent conflict in Lebanon has caused a significant number of individuals to flee to Syria. Samer AbdelJaber of the World Food Programme indicated the urgent need for secure aid routes, warning that up to 1.5 million people might soon require humanitarian assistance.
