Massive Beach Cleanup in Bali Addresses Plastic Pollution Crisis

On January 4, hundreds of volunteers participated in a significant beach cleanup in Bali, Indonesia, in response to what environmental NGO Sungai Watch called one of the worst plastic pollution events ever recorded on the island. Founder Gary Bencheghib reported the collection of 25 tons of debris within just six days, highlighting the severe impact of monsoon rains in carrying plastic waste from urban areas and rivers to the ocean. Common litter found included plastic cups, straws, and coffee sachets, primarily attributed to waste from Java.
