McKinsey Settles for $650 Million in Ongoing Opioid Marketing Investigation

Consulting firm McKinsey & Company has agreed to a $650 million settlement in the U.S. relating to an investigation into its marketing practices for addictive painkillers, particularly OxyContin produced by Purdue Pharma. The deal prohibits McKinsey from engaging in the marketing or promotion of dangerous drugs for five years. Prosecutors allege that McKinsey conspired with Purdue to mislead users and obstruct justice while advising pharmaceutical companies on increasing opioid sales, particularly targeting high-risk patients.
