Médecins sans frontières (MSF) announced the cessation of its migrant rescue operations in the Central Mediterranean due to increased sanctions from Italian authorities, which have led to significant immobilization of their humanitarian vessel, the Geo Barents. MSF criticized the extreme right-wing government’s policies under Giorgia Meloni that hinder lifesaving missions at sea. Despite this setback, MSF remains committed to aiding migrants and expressed its intention to return to rescue operations in the future.
