Meta Fined €798M by EU for Unfair Facebook Marketplace Practices

Meta Platforms has been fined €798 million by the European Commission for violating competition laws by unfairly integrating Facebook Marketplace into its social network. The Commission reported that this practice disadvantaged competing classified ad services, hindering their ability to compete effectively. In addition to the fine, Meta is ordered to cease these practices. EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager emphasized that Meta’s actions were detrimental to market fairness. Meta has announced plans to appeal the ruling, claiming insufficient evidence of harm to competitors or consumers.
