Mexico Seizes Substantial Fentanyl Shipment Amid Rising Tensions with U.S.

Mexican authorities announced a significant seizure of fentanyl, just weeks before the inauguration of elected U.S. President Donald Trump. Over 400,000 fentanyl pills and six tons of precursor chemicals were confiscated in operations linked to the Jalisco New Generation cartel. Trump has threatened to impose steep tariffs on imports from Mexico unless the country curbs drug trafficking and illegal immigration. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, is responsible for tens of thousands of overdose deaths in the U.S. annually.
