Migrant Arrivals in the UK Surpass 36,000 in 2024 as Small Boat Crossings Increase
The UK has seen over 300 migrants cross the Channel in small boats recently, bringing the total for 2024 to more than 36,000, surpassing 2023’s total. The Home Office vows to tackle people smuggling, while Conservative shadow home secretary Chris Philp criticizes Labour’s dismantling of previous border policies, particularly the Rwanda scheme aimed at deterring crossings. Since 2018, over 150,000 migrants have crossed via this route, raising concerns over border security and the risks posed to vulnerable individuals.
