Moldova Declares State of Emergency Amidst Gas Shortages
Moldova has declared a state of emergency due to anticipated gas shortages as it is expected to stop receiving Russian gas from January. The Moldovan parliament approved this measure in response to the expiration of Ukraine’s gas transit contract with Russia’s Gazprom. Energy Minister Viktor Parlikov had recently sought to negotiate continued gas flow through Turkstream, but faced dismissal after returning from negotiations. President Dorin Recean accused President Vladimir Putin of attempting to destabilize Moldova, amidst rising concerns over energy blackmail.
