In a bizarre incident in Yemassee, South Carolina, 43 rhesus macaque monkeys escaped from the Alpha Genesis research facility. The police have advised residents to secure their homes and avoid interaction with the monkeys, which are currently roaming the surrounding wooded area. Alpha Genesis CEO Greg Westergaard attributed the escape to a caretaker’s mistake in securing the doors. Efforts are underway to lure the monkeys back using traps and thermal imaging cameras, as locals are urged to keep a safe distance due to the animals’ nervousness and sensitivity.
