Municipal Police in France Protest Changes to Sick Leave Compensation

Municipal police across France are set to strike indefinitely starting November 15, in response to new sick leave compensation reforms that would extend the waiting period to three days. Stéphane Poupeau, president of the national public security union, criticized the changes, stating that officers cannot effectively serve while sick, noting a loss of about 200 euros per month. The union also condemned remarks made by Public Service Minister Guillaume Kasbarian, suggesting that the reforms imply fraudulent claims among officers. Municipal police plan to participate in a broader civil service strike scheduled for December 5.
