Netherlands Calls for Increased Shelters for Unaccompanied Minor Asylum Seekers

Dutch Minister for Asylum, Faber, has urged local authorities to step up efforts in providing accommodation for unaccompanied minor asylum seekers. The current capacity stands at 1,720, while a demand for 3,500 spaces is anticipated by year-end, worsening the asylum crisis. The lack of available housing has led to significant backlog issues, with nearly 11,000 refugees needing homes by mid-year. The government plans to revise the housing requirements for municipalities but emphasizes that legal changes are necessary before implementation.
