Netherlands Initiates Ban on Religious Symbols for Enforcement Officers
Beginning next year, all Special Enforcement Officers (BOA’s) in the Netherlands will be required to maintain a neutral appearance by prohibiting visible religious symbols, according to Justice Minister Van Weel. The decision aims to enhance public trust in their impartiality, aligning with past proposals for uniform neutrality. While some cities, like The Hague, have allowed such symbols, the government seeks nationwide uniformity by implementing a new regulation by 2025. The national enforcement union supports the ban, arguing that visible religious symbols could undermine perceived neutrality.
