Netherlands Postpones Withdrawal of Asylum Distribution Law

The Dutch government has announced that it will not propose the withdrawal of the asylum distribution law this year. Minister of Asylum and Migration, Faber, indicated that this proposal will now be submitted for advice in early 2025. The distribution law, enacted earlier this year, mandates municipalities to accommodate asylum seekers, a requirement the coalition seeks to abolish. Meanwhile, the government plans to expedite the asylum emergency measures law to alleviate pressure on the asylum system, which includes changes to asylum permits and family reunion policies.
