New Algorithm Achieves High Accuracy in Identifying Whiskey Origins
A research team led by Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute has developed a machine learning algorithm, OWSum, that can accurately determine whether a whiskey is American or Scottish based on its chemical composition and aromas. The algorithm achieved over 90% accuracy and outperformed individual experts in identifying the top five aroma notes. The study demonstrates the potential of artificial intelligence in the sensory evaluation of complex beverages like whiskey.
