New Documentary Highlights Plight of Wrongfully Accused Refugees
The documentary ‘142 Years,’ directed by journalist Stelios Kouloglou, premieres today at the KRONION cinema in Greece. It follows humanitarian worker Jason Apostolopoulos as he joins efforts to exonerate three refugees—Mohammed Hanad Abdi from Somalia, and Akif Rzouli and Amir Zahiri from Afghanistan. All three were unjustly sentenced as human traffickers after being coerced into steering a boat from Turkey to Greece. Hanad Abdi faces an astonishing 142-year prison sentence, while Rzouli and Zahiri each received 50 years behind bars.
