New Eruptions from Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Create Panic and Evacuations

Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted multiple times, heightening fears among local residents recovering from recent deadly explosions that claimed at least ten lives. The volcanology agency reported seven eruptions on Thursday, launching ash over 8,000 meters (5 miles) into the atmosphere. In response, officials have established a 7 km (4.3 miles) exclusion zone surrounding the volcano on Flores Island. Over 10,000 individuals are currently in temporary shelters as authorities caution against possible flash floods and cold lava flows in the days ahead.
