New Heat Impact Index Developed to Address Rising Temperatures in Netherlands
In response to increasing heat due to climate change, a new heat impact index has been developed by TNO, KNMI, RIVM, and Vrije Universiteit. The index evaluates not only temperature but also factors like wind, radiation heat, and humidity to give a comprehensive picture of heat risks. It aims to inform the public about how to prepare for hot weather beyond just watching out for the elderly, considering various demographics at risk. The index will be integrated into weather warnings by KNMI after a year of practice.
