New Mural in Londonderry Aims to Break Breastfeeding Stigmas
A new mural in Londonderry aims to address the stigma surrounding breastfeeding, as fewer mothers in the area choose to breastfeed compared to the rest of Northern Ireland. Commissioned by North West Breastfeeding and Perinatal Support, the mural, created by artist collective Peaball, features a pixelated image of a mother breastfeeding. Project coordinator Sinead O’Kane emphasizes the need for community support and encourages open conversations about breastfeeding. The initiative was inspired by a similar project in Scotland, which successfully increased breastfeeding rates by 5%.
