New Study Links ‘Forever Chemicals’ to Kidney Damage in Young Adults
A recent study reveals a concerning connection between exposure to PFAS, known as ‘forever chemicals,’ and kidney dysfunction among young adults. The research, conducted on 78 participants aged 17 to 22, demonstrated that those with higher PFAS levels experienced a significant decline in kidney function over four years. The findings suggest that PFAS alters gut microbiome composition, potentially impacting kidney health. This underscores the importance of monitoring PFAS exposure, as it may pose long-term health risks during crucial developmental phases. The study was published in the journal ‘Science of the Total Environment.’
