Nicolas Sarkozy Sentenced to Wear Electronic Bracelet Following Corruption Conviction
Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been found definitively guilty of corruption and is now required to wear an electronic bracelet for a year. Despite contesting his conviction up to the highest court, Sarkozy maintains his innocence and plans to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. He was previously sentenced to three years in prison, two of which were suspended, for attempting to bribe a legal official in exchange for information. Sarkozy, who served as president from 2007 to 2012, claims there is no solid evidence against him.
