Norway Leads Electric Vehicle Adoption as Sales of Gasoline Cars Plummet
Norway has become a leader in electric vehicle (EV) adoption, with nearly 90% of new car sales in 2024 being electric, surpassing gasoline vehicles. The country aims to eliminate sales of gasoline and diesel cars by 2025, thanks to high import taxes on traditional vehicles and long-term incentives for EVs. Experts note the importance of sustained government support, in contrast to other countries where incentives are often retracted. In contrast, the EU’s electric vehicle market is struggling, partly due to the abrupt end of subsidies in Germany.
